Styles of Prayer

Agreement

This is when two or more people pray together for the same thing and the same result.  This is when we are living in obedience to the Word of God and our prayers are in line with Scripture.  This is an ‘agreement’ with God’s Word relating to our life style as well as our prayers.

Confession.

The Lord will always hear our heart’s cry.  When we have failed Him, He does not lock us out but is waiting for us to turn again to Him and confess our sins, our faults, and our failings.  He is ready to forgive our repentant heart and restore us as we renew our walk with Him.   When He forgives, He forgets!  "I, even I, am He who blots out your transgressions for My own sake; and I will not remember your sins.”  Isaiah 43:25.

Contemplation

Contemplation prayer is a time when we center full attention on the presence of God, on His will, His love and His word.  We come before the Lord and see Him with the eyes of our heart and worship Him.  As we open ourselves to God we enter in to the prayer of the heart.

Intercession

What a privilege God has given us that we can come before Him and plead on behalf of another’s need.  Our Saviour, Jesus, represents us before the Father’s throne and intercedes for us.  We join with Him when we intercede for others.

Petition

Just as parents long to give good gifts to their children so our Heavenly Father desires to give good gifts to His children.  He also knows how to develop our lives so that He brings out the best in us.  There are times that ‘you do not have because you do not ask.’   James 4:2.  Make your requests known to Him.

Praise

Give honour to our Lord and praise Him for Who He is, not only for what He has done. Jesus’ death and resurrection is the foundation of everything that is available to us. Our thanks and praises are what we can give Him that come from us and cost Him nothing. Everything the Lord has done has come from His unconditional love and mercy and not to gain our thanks and praise. That is our gift to Him.

Thanksgiving

As you come into God’s presence come with thanksgiving.  Thank Him for the Blood of Jesus shed for you.  Otherwise you would not be able to come into the Lord’s presence at all.  Thank Him for His unfailing loving kindness for us.  Praise Him that He is just and merciful.

Worship

Does the Lord have first place in your life?  Many people may no longer worship gods of wood and stone.  They have been replaced by giving first place to money, power, or fame.  Even worthy matters can take first place in our lives.  Our Lord and God is worthy of our worship and of having the first place and the very best of our lives.
